Was Zeb Bangash the star of ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ music album? Mesmerising vocals

Mesmerising vocals : Was Zeb Bangash the star of ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’ music album?

KARACHI: Zebunnisa Bangash more commonly known as Zeb has mesmerised music lovers with her songs in the latest blockbuster hit film ‘Ho Mann Jahaan’, starring Shehryar Munawar, Adeel Hussain and Mahira Khan.

Zeb not only sang and produced three songs but also worked on the background score of the film.

The song “Man ke jahaan”’ is groovy and dreamy, a modern song of hope, that perfectly captures the mood of the film. “Dil pagla” is an upbeat and playful number that beautifully uses western and folk textures in a Pakistani pop sensibility.

In this song, Zeb’s maturity as a singer and her unique and melodious voice is showcased. Lastly “Dosti” is a contemporary rendition of Zohaib and Nazia Hassan’s ‘90s cult classic interpreted in a funky groove. Zeb’s versatility and the ease with, which she moves through genres and vocal styles in this soundtrack are remarkable and something that sets her apart not only from female singers but also male vocalists in the country today. Talking about her experience, Zeb said, “It feels great to be part of the revival of Pakistani cinema. The fact that Asim had faith in me to translate his vision into a range of sounds and moods really helped me explore different musical ideas. I am really grateful to all the fans that are loving the songs and sending out rave reviews. I love you all.”

Zeb burst into the music scene as the lead singer and co-composer of Zeb & Haniya, a duo she created with her cousin. Their original songs gained them much popularity and critical acclaim including a feature in Time magazine. Since then she has been growing continuously as an artist. As a singer, songwriter and music producer with a truly global sensibility, Zeb has the talent to learn and draw from music across the globe. In particular, she feels an affinity with music from the Central Asian and Persian regions. Zeb’s proficiency and comfort with singing in various languages such as Dari, Pashto, Turkish, Balochi, Siraiki, Urdu and Punjabi has also helped her connect very intimately with the widespread demographic of her fans. From being invited as one of the celebrity guests on the most famous television show in Afghanistan, ‘Afghan Star’ to her musical collaborations on Pakistan’s premier music show ‘Coke Studio’, Zeb has won both critical acclaim and the popular virility on the digital sphere. Zeb and Haniya’s extremely successful collaboration with Bollywood musical heavyweights Shantanu Moitra and Swanand Kirkire, for the Cannes Film Award winning TV series ‘Dewarists’, led to Zeb’s playback singing Bollywood debut with the film ‘Madras CafĂ©’ song titled “Jaise Milein Ajnabee”. This was soon followed by her playback for AR Rahman’s “Sooha Saaha” in the film ‘Highway.’

Some of Zeb’s other recent work has been for Bin Roye’s OST titled “Maula maula” with legendary Abida Parveen, cinematic biopic Manto’s most catchy song titled “Kya hoga?” where she collaborated with singer Ali Sethi and OST of popular TV drama serial ‘Diyar-e-Dil’. The latest on Zeb’s front are two melodious tracks which have been done for upcoming Indian film ‘Fitoor’.

Richardson leads Australia to 25-run victory over India

Richardson leads Australia to 25-run victory over India

CANBERRA: A spectacular Indian batting collapse gave Australia a 25-run victory in the one-day international in Canberra on Wednesday, their fourth successive victory in the five-match series. After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Australian openers Aaron Finch and David Warner both posted big scores to take the home side to a massive 348 for eight. The Indians looked well on target when Shikhar Dhawan (126) and Virat Kohli (106) put on 212 for the second wicket to reach 277 for one, smashing the attack all over Manuka Oval. Neither batsman was in any trouble on a lifeless pitch and none of the Australian bowlers were spared. But once Dhawan fell cutting John Hastings to George Bailey at point, the Indian wickets began falling regularly and the Australians began to assert control.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni fell for a duck before Kohli hit a catch to Australian captain Steve Smith at mid-off, his only false shot in a magnificent 106-ball innings.

With four wickets down and in-form batsman Ajinkya Rahane hampered by split webbing on his hand, the Indians began to panic as they lost Gurkeerat Singh (5), Rahane (2) and Rishi Dhawan (9) in quick succession.

The tailenders put up little resistance and Australia took the last nine wickets for just 46 runs to wrap up an unlikely victory. “It’s a funny game isn’t it?” said a delighted Smith. “It looked like they were cruising for a while there, but a couple of wickets always changes the swing of things.

“We had a never say die attitude tonight, which is something I want to instil in these guys. “We worked incredibly hard to get back into that game and when we got a sniff we ran with it.”

Dhoni said he took responsibility for the loss after failing to capitalise on the good start to the run chase. “That’s what my job in the team is, to finish off the games from that type of position, but unfortunately I got out,” he said.

“There was a bit of pressure on the youngsters, but I think certainly we should have done much better. “The way we started was what we needed and the partnership between Shikhar and Virat was magnificent.” Earlier Finch made 107 and Warner 93 in a huge opening stand of 187. Smith then smashed 51 off only 29 balls and Glenn Maxwell 41 from 20 in a display of powerful shotmaking. Warner brought up his 50 from 46 balls with eight fours and one six. Finch was more sedate than his partner, taking 61 balls for his half century, but began to pick up the pace soon afterwards. His innings was especially damaging to umpire Richard Kettleborough, who was hit on the shin by a powerful on-drive and had to be replaced in the middle by Paul Wilson. After breaking the opening stand India took regular wickets to slow the scoring down until Maxwell let rip in the last two overs to post a target that eventually proved too much.

House Of Zunn Fashion and lifestyle brand launches new store in Karachi

House Of Zunn

Fashion and lifestyle brand launches new store in Karachi

In 1991, two remarkable personalities came together to form a boutique, starting from one small exhibition with clothes, they felt the modern woman should wear. As luck would have it, many other women agreed and their collection was sold out and a queue would form outside their homes from there onwards, pushing them towards the fashion industry where they would change the way fashion is looked at in Pakistan.

The word Zunn signifies the
feminine side: the brand aspires to embody the beauty, elegance and inner strength of the gender.

The original vision was to create a brand that reflects the new confident and self-assured female. Understated elegance was and is their mantra. Adherence to this principal has created a niche, which has catapulted Zunn into the international arena with their fashion design and home lifestyle collections.

House of Zunn was developed to provide high quality apparel to its discerning clientele, a project which now includes a nationwide popular Lawn brand, a well-received luxury prĂȘt line and a high end bridal couture line amongst others that have recently been introduced.

For the past two decades, Zunn has been a centre of inspired designing. Colour play and quality experimentation with textures is at the centre of their ethos.

“We are all about our work and designing is our passion,” says Uzma Mirza and Seema Sherazee – the driving force and founders of the company! “The team is constantly busy and we understand the power of a great product, which is why we’ve always maintained a low profile on our marketing side as we let our products speak for themselves.” They are kept at a frenzied pace by their cadre of loyal customers all over the world.

From being the first design house to pioneer different embroidery techniques into lawn collections, which they’ve created and designed for over a decade to earning the highest accolades in women empowerment and fashion, the founders of House of Zunn branched out to furniture and lifestyle and created yet another behemoth to satisfy the taste of their upper crust clientele. Being trendsetters became a role they easily slipped in to and many women around Pakistan and internationally would come to enjoy their sophisticated designs, both in their homes and on themselves.

The interiors and furniture segment of House of Zunn boasts multiple commercial and residential projects of high profile organizations and individuals around the globe. With a flagship store based out of Jumeirah Road, Dubai, the furniture and interiors segment has surpassed all expectations with residential and holiday projects with top Bollywood stars, business tycoons as well as hotels and other large scale projects beyond the border. With prominent presence in famous dramas and films like ‘Humsafar’ and ‘Bin Roye’, to being involved in the country’s first ever complete designer home architectural venture, House of Zunn has witnessed and experienced the best the industry has to offer.

House of Zunn currently features six collections four of, which will be displayed during the launch. These collections that will be available in store on the launch are bridals, luxury couture, essence and whimsicals. The focus of Zunn’s designs are in the heavily detailed embellishments with meticulous attention to detail and high quality tailoring.

After the red carpet hosted by Anoushay Ashraf, the store launch event featured a fashion presentation showcased by some of Pakistan’s top models, introducing the brand’s latest bridal collection: an assemblage of intricately embellished bridals in different colour modules – silver pastels, crimson, black and brass! Each model featured a different look in the modules, walking out of the store and into the outer event space. The presentation ended to reveal the exhibition where bookings of the essence and whimsical collections were taken.

The launch was attended by many highly recognised personalities including Sharmila Faruqi, Hum Network President Sultana Siddiqui, Abdullah Kidwani and his wife as well as Nighat Misbah who also happen to be Zunn customers.

House of Zunn has reinvented its store’s look for 2016 and has expanded to include a variety of new products other than clothing all of, which will be available in store now.

PSL is not a rival to IPL: Najam Sethi

PSL is not a rival to IPL: Najam Sethi

LAHORE: Pakistan Super League (PSL) chairman Najam Sethi has dismissed speculations that the tournament is directly going to compete against the Indian Premier League (IPL). “No, the PSL is not a rival to the IPL,” Sethi was quoted as saying Wednesday. “The IPL is in a league of its own. There are more people in India than anywhere else in the world. And then all the top broadcasters are Indian, so I don’t think there is any comparison between the two and I don’t think there will be any competition because the leagues will be played at different times,” he added.

The Twenty20 extravaganza is going to take place from February 4 to 23 in Dubai and Sharjah with the winning pool estimated at $1million. Home favourites such as Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik and the returning Muhammad Aamir will be joined by specialists Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen and many more in the five-team event. Sethi also said that the PSL was open to the idea of including Indian players but their respective board does not permit the players to participate in any other league except the IPL. “Indian players are not going to be playing in the PSL. It’s not because we don’t want them, we do want them, but the Indian cricket board doesn’t let them play in any other league apart from their own. Maybe in the future that will happen.”Pakistan faced isolation from hosting international matches in the country until Zimbabwe visited the country for a low-key tour in May 2015 and Sethi believes that was the first building block. The PSL chief believes the idea is to organise the event in Pakistan in the upcoming years. “The ultimate goal is to bring this tournament back to Pakistan,” he said. “We are going to have a clean ride next year; I’m not saying it’s going to happen but we are going to try and have one or two PSL matches in Pakistan. We are happy to pay players more if they are happy to play in Pakistan. We are also planning on bringing some foreign teams to Pakistan this year and if we can demonstrate a track record to show that security has been taken care of, then maybe the PSL can move back to Pakistan sooner rather than later.”

Daily Times News University attackers identified: army

PESHAWAR: Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Asim Bajwa on Wednesday said major breakthroughs had been made in identifying the terrorists who attacked the Bacha Khan University. The ISPR chief said the terrorists’ phone calls had been traced and analysed, and that two cell phones had also been recovered from them. “When army reached the premises, all four attackers were alive. They were contained in the hostel and were eventually eliminated on the roof and the stairs,” informed the ISPR chief. They had a lot of ammo, including grenades, he added. “Their call logs were analysed and an intelligence picture was established, with most data having been collected,” said Lt Gen Bajwa, adding that forensics and fingerprints of the attackers had been shared with National Database Registration Authority (NADRA), adding that “an intelligence picture is also being created with input from NADRA.” “We have gathered almost all relevant data on who they (attackers) were, from where they came and who supported them.” But the ISPR chief said the information is “sensitive” and is being “processed and updated,” which will be shared with the public later. “We cleared the sanctuaries of terrorists after which certain people crossed the border towards Afghanistan and are operating from there. That aspect is also under investigation,” he maintained. Bajwa said terrorists were getting instructions from outside and were receiving calls. “They (terrorists) are targeting symbols of progress.” The ISPR chief said, “As long as the facilitators and financiers of terrorists are present, they can carry out an attack at any place and time. What matters is how we respond to this as a nation.” Intelligence-based operations (IBOs) are being carried out to hunt down the facilitators of the terrorists involved in Charsadda attack, he said. Briefing newsmen about the gruesome terror attack, Bajwa said four terrorists attacked the university. They were using two mobile phones with Afghan SIMs on which calls were received from different locations, including Afghanistan.
